Ayushka Dhakal, class of ’27, is an undergraduate IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences) major at Lehigh University; their metal forming processes of interest include extrusion and Shear-Assisted Processing and Extrusion (ShAPETM).
[1] What excites you about this project?
I am excited about this project because of its priority in finding sustainable and environmentally friendly means to recycle metal. I am looking forward to understanding the problems the Philippines currently faces in regard to metal waste recycling and to find ways in which we can help them create better systems of metal recycling. I am also excited to learn more about different processes involved in metal recycling.
[2] How do you envision this project helping you achieve your academic and career goals?
This project helps me understand how I, as an engineer, can help create systems to help communities around me in an ethical and sustainable manner.
Learning how to work on a project that directly works to help a community will, I think, be most helpful to me in the future. Moreover, having research experience as a first-year undergraduate will help me professionally stand out in the future.
